We are an inclusive community school, rooted in shared values, determined to enable all our students to fulfil their potential

  • Successful.

  • Independent.

  • Respected.

  • Responsible.

  • Secure.

  • We share success in a wide variety of ways at MCS. Academic success is part of this, and we are well-established as a school at which students achieve exceptionally well. However, success comes in a variety of ways, and we celebrate a broad range of success in academic and non-academic fields. Our broad curriculum enables students to be successful in their chosen pathways, so that when they leave us they have the ability to make a high quality choice from the very best options available. This might be a first-class university, or it might be a graduate apprenticeship, a technical qualification or a work-based pathway.

  • A student’s journey through school is one of developing greater independence. Students are encouraged to take pride in their learning and progress, and to develop their independent study skills both inside and outside lessons. They are taught how to manage their time and workload, how to revise and how best to learn in each subject. Students gain greater levels of independence as they progress through MCS and into Sixth Form. We also work on wider student independence, fostering resilience and intrinsic motivation amongst all that join us.

  • MCS operates with the fundamental tenet of respect at its core. Mutual respect between all people at our school includes treating others as you would like to be treated – courteously, politely and positively. We listen to and look out for one another here at MCS.

Diversity and difference are also respected throughout our school. Individuality and different perspectives are valued and celebrated. We are respectful of others and their opinions.

Respect also entails respecting our wonderful school building, the site and its facilities. The school belongs to all of us, and as such we all have a responsibility to take care of it. We all take pride in ensuring it is looked after.

  • Secondary school is a place and time for students to develop and grow with new freedoms as they progress. These freedoms and greater sense of self-ownership come with a greater sense of responsibility. All students at the school are responsible for their own actions, and as such need to make positive decisions with the increasing freedom that they experience. Routines such as attending every day on time, wearing uniform correctly and behaving positively are examples as this. MCS guides and supports students in this development throughout their time with us, knowing that everyone makes mistakes and it is how we learn from them that has the greatest benefit.

  • It is vital that students feel secure at school. This in part refers to personal safety – keeping safe online on social media, cyber-security, taking care of personal belongings and other material concerns. However, it also refers to emotional security. A secure and happy student is far better placed to learn, make progress and reach their potential. We strive to ensure that students feel secure in their working relationships at school to ask for help if they are finding something difficult, or if they are upset or uncomfortable about anything.
