Friends of MCS
Did you know that as a parent, carer, or member of staff at Monmouth Comprehensive School, you are automatically a member of Monmouth Comprehensive School Friends Association?
The Friends support the school community through social events and a fundraising and all the money raised goes towards providing extras that the school budget simply cannot stretch to. Over the last few years, for example, the Friends have paid for a hair-raising new Van der Graaf generator for the Science Faculty; bought sensory equipment for the specialist resource base; 60 scientific calculators for the Maths Faculty; a new football kit for the girls football team; and an iPad Pro for the Drama Department so students can film and edit their work.We also raised the funds for the very popular outdoor table tennis tables, which all the kids love using and we have an ongoing agreement to regularly pay for replacement bats and balls ensuring that all students can enjoy the tables in their break times.
Watch our new video to get a flavour of what we do:
(Thanks to all parents, staff and students who supported the making of the film, in particular Rich and Becky Stoddard and Noni North)
However, we are not just about fundraising. We also run a second-hand uniform service in partnership with the Magic Cottage Charity shop, next to the Shire Hall in Monmouth, providing good quality second-hand uniform at greatly reduced prices.
This is what two of our members have said about being part of MCS Friends.
"Being able to support our school is genuinely rewarding and it has been a pleasure getting to know other parents, staff and students along the way."
"It is rewarding to raise funds for the school and see the difference they make to school life, but the best thing about getting involved with MCS Friends Association is the great new people I have met and the invaluable insight I have got into the school and how it operates from parents with children older than mine."
