News from MCS

Annwyl pawb

We will have our usual ‘festive flourish’ on our last day of term next Thursday, where students (and staff!) are encouraged to add or embellish their usual school uniform, perhaps with a Christmas jumper, Santa hat, reindeer antlers, tinsel accoutrements, or in fact all of the above in splendid combination.

We are also really looking forward to our Carol Service at St Mary’s Priory Church next Wednesday - a highlight of the school calendar.

A reminder to families that clubs/activities have now finished for this term, and will restart the week we return.  Any changes to the schedule will appear on the website.

And finally, we were really pleased to be invited to speak at the national conference this week about our approach to the new Curriculum for Wales at MCS. It is fantastic to see the superb work undertaken by staff here being recognised more widely. Diolch, pawb.

All the best for the weekend.

Wellbeing Ambassadors

Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year from the Wellbeing Ambassadors.

Mrs Hopkins and the Wellbeing Ambassadors have been busy supporting and mentoring KS3 students - meeting on a weekly basis to provide additional support and a friendly face.

We are looking forward to continuing to support the students at MCS in the new year!

Monmouth Comprehensive School Friends Association

As we approach the end of term, we wanted to do a quick round-up of all of our recent activities and thank you or two.

  • We have raised a massive £1721.50 through the sale of second-hand uniform over the summer and autumn term, which is divided between the Friends Association and Bridges Community Centre. We would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who has donated uniform either by dropping it off at the school or directly to the Bridges Community shop on the high street. If you have any second-hand uniform, please consider donating it, it really does make a big difference, providing a service to families that need it in the community and raising funds for these two fantastic causes.

  • Our Bingo Evening in November was a tremendous success with over 100 parents, students and staff attending.  The evening raised £1,433.01 which will go to support school activities. Thank you to all those who attended and to all the Friends who helped ensure the evening was a success.

  • We have successfully applied for £1500 in external grants this term.

  • The Christmas Raffle was drawn on the 13th December and the winners have been informed. Thank you to everyone who bought tickets and helped organise this. We made £1,400 0 to support school projects.

  • We have raised £96.77 for the school through Easy Fundraising this term. If you have not already signed up, please follow the link below and don’t forget to download the donation reminder.  https://www.easyfundraising.org.uk/causes/monmouthcomp

We are already hard at work planning another social event for next term, so please look out for information.

The next Friends meeting will be on Tuesday 16th January, 7.30 pm at The Punch House in Monmouth - everyone is welcome.

Merry Christmas and A Happy New Year

MCS Friends

Parlez- Vous Français ? Sprechen Sie Deutsch ? ¿Habla español?

Do you speak French/ German/Spanish ?

We are looking within our wider community for any parents/volunteers who may have linguistic skills and would be willing to meet students for conversation practice. We have had volunteers in the past and found students benefit from these speaking sessions as they are often informal and help build student confidence. Volunteers have also enjoyed speaking the language, as they often find they may not be using this skill any longer.

We look forward to hearing from you.

Monmouth Head

The Rowing Club went to its first event of the season at its local head following the cancellation of four events so far this season.

In the morning division, the senior boys quads in J18 4x- & J16 4x- came up against tough competition and were unable to convert a good performance into a race win.

Our senior girl’s quad, in the afternoon division, took home the first win of the season by the narrowest of margins of 0.9 seconds in WJ18 4x- (Seren van Der Horst, Maddie Dickens, Nanci Edwards, Hannah Rogers).

We look forward to the new year for our next win, hopefully, at Stourport Head in January.
