News from MCS

10 06 22

Another bumper newsletter - there is always so much going on, and lots to celebrate. It was the final day of timetabled lessons for Year 11 today; they and all exam students have worked extraordinarily hard. We are very proud of all of them.

We are also delighted to welcome Year 6 students joining us in September to our Transition to MCS evenings next week, where they will meet their Form Tutor and each other. We look forward to getting to know them in person through the induction process onwards, and know that our current students will also welcome them warmly to our school community.

Best wishes,

Money Matters Campaign - MCC

Monmouthshire County Council are trying to make as many families as possible aware of support available to them, whether they are in immediate financial crisis or they are currently managing but want to find ways to save money.

The campaign seeks to signpost available support and how families can claim all the support they’re entitled to but might not be aware of. Anyone can find themselves struggling but the sooner you seek support the better.

The website link where you will find all the information is: https://www.monmouthshire.gov.uk/money-matters/ but you might find the attached poster (click HERE) of interest, too.

MCC want Monmouthshire families to know that advice and support is available if they are worried about the increasing cost of living and debt generally as they are aware that money worries can affect anybody.

MCSBC Rowing Update

Monmouth Regatta and National Schools' Regatta

Just before half term the Club enjoyed a successful weekend of racing, picking up four wins at our home event at Monmouth Regatta as well claiming a National bronze medal.

First time race winners were our J15 4X+ of Arthur Dennant, Archie Cowton, Hector Futcher, Sam Chilton and James Probert and our J16 2X of Ffyn Parry and Max Hole. The success continued as our senior girls 4- of Beth Crossley, Laura Willis, Ella Miles and Meg Clifton raced open and beat university opposition to claim their first ever sweep win. Our Club Captain, Peaches Hale, rounded off the day by winning in WJ18 1x.

At the National Schools' Regatta, our senior boys did the Club proud as the crew of Tom Powell, Jack Bufton, Tom Coates and Elliot Lynch-Warden came 4th in the Politzer Cup (Open 2nd 4x-).

The following day, our WJ16 quad with the crew of Madison Dickens, Violet Holbrow-Brooksbank, Seren Van der Horst and Hannah Rogers went one step further and picked up Bronze in the Kitchin Cup (WJ16 2nd 4x-).

Performing & Expressive Arts Update

A group of lead cast from our school production of Grease performed as part of the Raglan Festival Jubilee Street Party on Sunday 5th June. In the midst of exam season, the group did a great job of bringing a medley performance together to entertain the crowds.

Seussical:  The Musical is taking shape as we move within one month of the opening show.

Tickets will be available to purchase next week via TicketSource - links will be shared on the school website and in this newsletter.  Performances take place 11-14th July.

On 28th June we will have our PEA Summer Showcase. Featuring the School Orchestra, Outrun the Rain and various soloists as well as the Sixth Form Art Exhibition, there will be refreshments provided by the Friends Association.  This is a free event - please book on the eventbrite link below.

Well done Arianne!

Last weekend Arianne Allford competed for the second time in the GB Skate Artistic British Roller Skating Championships in Great Yarmouth. She placed 8th out of 18 very talented skaters in her age category so remains in the top ten solo dance skaters in the country for her age.

Arianne scored enough points across the weekend to advance to a higher level of competition for the year ahead and qualified for next year's Championships, which was a huge achievement.

Doubles Tennis Success

Congratulations to Max Swayne from Y7 and his partner James Churchill, who played in the Mens Doubles Tournament at Usk over half term. There was tough opposition and many long matches. Then, in the Final, they were trailing 6-2 in the final tie break, but they kept fighting and came back and won it 10-8!
