Dear parents and carers

We were delighted to welcome our first students from Ukraine this week, who were touring the school in advance of starting with us. Many local families have taken part in providing homes for Ukranians who have arrived in the area recently following the ongoing humanitarian crisis in Ukraine. We are very pleased to be involved in supporting this by providing education for the students who will join us.

All current students were informed of the above in a virtual assembly with me this week. The theme was Respect, of which mutual respect between everyone and the value of diversity was emphasised. I reiterated the message that we have zero tolerance of discriminatory language or actions at our school, and that we will take robust action against any instances of such. Whilst such instances are not the norm, any instance of discriminatory language or actions is unacceptable. I emphasised to students that they should report any instances immediately to a member of staff. In addition, the expanded Wellbeing curriculum, reviewed in partnership with students, will provide greater opportunities for discussion in areas such as this.

Finally, on the theme of mutual respect, it has been fantastic to see the consideration that non-exam groups have given those taking exams this summer. I am sure part of them is realising that they will be in the same position in future years - a great example of treating others in the manner in which you yourself would wish to be treated.

Another great day of racing for the rowing club at Avon Regatta last weekend. There were three wins for club, the first being in WJ16 2X with Seren Van der Horst and Violet Holbrow-Brooksbank continuing their winnings ways in the double from Evesham Regatta. The margin of victory judged to be only a canvas.

Our second win of the day came shortly after in the WJ18 4x- with Beth Crossley, Laura Willis, Ella Miles and Megan Clifton giving a very classy performance winning by a couple of lengths. Our third win came from Tom Powell was able to claim yet another win in J18 1x making it his third event win in a single this year and his undefeated streak in a single continues for the season.

Our next race is on Saturday 28th May and it is our home event, here in Monmouth. If you want to cheer our members or come to see what rowing is all about, please come on down to the river bank.  We'd be delighted to see you all.

Lockers

We are fast approaching the date when Y11 and Y13 will finish at MCS.  Could we please ask that if they use a locker at school, they ensure the lock is removed and the locker is clear and clean before they leave us.

If any lockers still have locks on them, they will be removed and the contents disposed of in preparation for the new Academic year.  This ensures all lockers can be cleaned before the students start in September.

Thank you for your assistance.
