Please click here for this week's video - 4 minutes long, and there is even an option to watch it double speed.

Many congratulations to all students Years 10-13 who have taken part in Pre-Public Exams in the last couple of weeks. We have been impressed with how well they have applied themselves, both in revision and in the exam hall itself. It's great preparation for the real thing.

It is Festive Flourish next Thursday, in celebration of the final day of term – all festive adornments to usual uniform are welcomed, including Christmas jumpers, Santa hats, reindeer antlers... we look forward to a celebratory and festive final day of term, before everyone heads off to a well-deserved break.

All the best for the weekend ahead to you all.

Student Success/Llwyddiant Myfyrwyr

Congratulations to Year 10 student Phoebe Croudace who entered the recent
I Have a Dream’ poetry competition advertised by the English Faculty.

Phoebe has received special commendation for her poem which will be published in a book of winning entries. It is spectacular.

A Dream For All

In quiet hours, my heart takes flight, Chasing dreams,
beyond the night.
Ambition burning, strong and true. A path
unbound, for me, for you.

No walls to cage the soaring mind. No chains of race or
creed to bin. Equality, a radiant flame. That lights the dark,
destroys the shame.

For dreams belong to every soul. Each voice, a thread, a vital goal.
Together, weaving futures bright, Where justice dawns with morning light.
So rise with hope, embrace with fire.
Let passion lift you even higher.
In unity, our spirits gleam – One world, one dream, one endless stream.

Mayor's Charity Flood support

Well done to Year 7 student Olivia Spraggs who raised £30 with her pom-pom orders, which she has donated to the Mayor's Charity flood fund.

A big thank you to everyone who supported the MCS Amnesty bakesale last week, again raising funds for the Mayor's charity.  £200 was raised in total.

Year 11 student Alys Roberts has gone from strength to strength in rugby, having recently been selected to play for Crosskeys College Coleg Gwent.

Her dedication and hard work has earned her place and the reward of her squad being crowned the Welsh Schools and Colleges Champions.

Well done Alys!

If your child missed having their Flu vaccination on the session day as they did not have consent, they can have this by visiting ABUHB Vaccination Centre in Cwmbran or you can book an appointment at any of the community vaccination clinics across the health board by calling 0300 303 1373.

For details of all clinic venues visit Vaccination Pop-up Clinics - Aneurin Bevan University Health Board

Flu remains in circulation over the entire winter period therefore it is not too late to protect your children.

Rowers Rise Above the Storm: MCSBC Celebrates Team Spirit and Overcomes Bad Conditions

Not even stormy weather could dampen the spirits of the Monmouth Comprehensive School Boat Club rowers this week. When the much-anticipated Monmouth Winter Head was cancelled due to adverse conditions, the team refused to let disappointment take hold. Instead, they turned the setback into an opportunity to celebrate their unity and look ahead to new challenges.

Monday brought a wave of excitement as the latest delivery of Race Suits arrived. Before preparations began for the upcoming Reindeer Dash, the club hosted a special Race Suit ceremony for those receiving their first racing all-in-one. The event was made even more memorable by the presence of club volunteer Richard Graefe, who proudly presented the new suits to the rowers. For many, it was a proud moment— happy to be showing themselves as representatives of the school on the water.

Hedgehog Houses/Tai Draenog

Mr Jenkins and his team have been making Hedgehog Houses as part of the Bike Shed Project - see below (hedgehog not included!).  These are now for sale at the very modest price of £10 - ideal Christmas present possibly.

The money raised then goes towards buying more materials and tools for other Bike Shed projects.

If anyone wishes to purchase one, please contact Reception.

Food Bank Collection/Casgliad y Banc Bwyd

Well done to 11CWI who have been collecting donations for the Foodbank over the past fortnight (a tradition that they have observed every Christmas since joining MCS). On Friday 5th December, a collection of five boxes of much-needed food and toiletries was taken to Monmouth Foodbank to aid with supporting the local community at Christmas.

Did you know you can download the BanktheFood app where you can find out what is needed at your local food bank?  Go to www.bankthefood.com for more details.

The Food Bank have asked us to pass on their thanks for the donations - everything donated makes a huge difference to local families.

Donaldson Timber Systems

Y11 GCSE Built Environment students were lucky enough this week to have a fantastic presentation by Mr James Lund-Lack from Donaldson Timber Systems.

The presentation looked at the advantages of timber-framed houses in the UK including sustainability and the production and assembly process of the houses.

We would like to thank Mr Lund-Lack and Donaldson Timber Systems for their time and invaluable presentation.
