Shwmae bawb - my video this week can be viewed here.

We have completed our preparations for the Pre-Public Exam Fortnight that follows over the next couple of weeks – students involved (and parents/carers) will have received their individual timetables on email. This is part of our work to prepare students for the public exams by mirroring the experience in authentic conditions, so that they can feel confident in what to expect, and so that they get feedback on how to improve their performance. Please let us know if you have any questions about this.

May I also draw your attention to the range of community responses to the recent floods that are outlined below. Please do take part if you are able to, and if you know anyone in need as a result of flooding who we can assist in helping, please let us know. The need doesn't disappear as quickly as the headlines do.

All the best to you all for the weekend ahead.

Student Success/Llwyddiant Myfyrwyr

Well done to Y11 students Oscar Wadley and Ioan Thomas, 11MPE, who helped Pontypool Schools beat Aberavon Schools in the quarter-final of the Dewar Shield Bowl competition.

They now move on to the semi-finals on Friday against RGC West Schools.

Good luck to all the squad.

Monmouth U13s rugby team has secured their place in the Dragons Cup quarter-finals after an outstanding 50–0 victory over Chepstow RFC. It was a superb all-round performance, with every player stepping up on the day. Standout efforts came from Charlie Kedward, Josiah Watton, Ollie Lee, Elijah Powell, Roman Prichard, Ben Greenhill, Dan Anderson, and Harry Thomas. The team now looks ahead with confidence as they continue their impressive cup run.

Good luck in the next round, boys.

Community Support/Cefnogaeth y gymuned

Amnesty MCS are planning to hold a bakesale on Friday 5th December at school to raise money for the Mayor's Fund for Monmouth, following the recent flooding in the town.

We know you have recently supported the Children in Need bakesale, but if you are able to support this bakesale with homemade or shop-bought goodies, we would be extremely grateful.

Items should either be dropped at Reception or at the Humanities Office at the start of school on Friday.

Fluenze Nasal Vaccine/Brechlyn Trwynol Fluenze

If you wish your child to receive the flu vaccine, the school nursing service will visit the school to offer students in Years 7-11 a nasal flu spray vaccine on Wednesday 10th and Thursday 11th December.

The NHS recommends that your child has a flu vaccination every year.

It’s very important to protect your child from flu to make sure they stay as healthy as possible. The best flu vaccine for most children is a nasal spray. This is the vaccine that will be given on the day.

The online consent form and additional information can be found here:

E- Consent Form Link

To help make sure the vaccine is suitable for your child, and they don’t miss out, please take time to read the information and follow the link to complete the electronic consent form as soon as possible, before the planned vaccination date, no later than Friday 5th December.  Any consent forms submitted after this time may result in your child not receiving their vaccine on the day.

We encourage parental engagement and consent wherever possible for young people. However, everyone aged 16 years and over is presumed to have the capacity to give consent themselves, unless the opposite is demonstrated. If a child under the age of 16 fully understands what is involved, they are legally able to make an informed decision to consent. They are advised to inform their parent/guardian. However, they have the right to not disclose this information if they wish.

The nose spray flu vaccine that contains porcine gelatine is the best protection against flu for children. If you want to have your child protected against flu, but you do not want them to have the nose spray, you can request the gelatine free injection instead, on the consent form, and you will be invited to a clinic.

Should you have any difficulties accessing the above link, please contact 01633 431685 for further support.

Wellbeing/Lles

As we approach the winter season, could we remind parents/carers that the NHS advise that children with diarrhoea or vomiting should stay away from school until they have not been sick or had diarrhoea for at least 2 days (48 hours).

Thank you for your support.
