Annwyl bawb

Please click here for a message from me, which covers the future of Science GCSEs, recent school visitors and Year 7's great start to their secondary school career.

We have made arrangements with Citizens Advice for an adviser to visit school once a week to speak to parents and carers who might be in need of their services. Citizens Advice is an organisation which gives people the knowledge and confidence they need to find their way forward – whoever they are, and whatever their problem. Areas of specialism include housing, work, benefits, law and debt. They are there to help everyone who needs it with practical advice; their national charity and network of local charities offer confidential advice online, over the phone, and in person, for free.

They will be with us every Tuesday afternoon between 3-4pm to offer this service, which we hope will be of use to many parents and carers. Further details of how to access this service may be found on the poster in the Community section of this newsletter.

All the best for a fruitful and enjoyable weekend.

Another great weekend for both Lyra and Max Swayne

Congratulations to Lyra and the South Wales 12U County Cup Team, for winning their County group in Ivybridge, Devon. They beat all the other teams – Devon, Cornwall, Avon and Somerset - winning 18 out of 18 matches. They also won 36 sets and only lost 2 sets in total as a team.

Congratulations also to Max for winning the Penallt Mens Tournament last Sunday for the second year in a row.

Max also won the most points in the 2024-2025 Penallt Box League Competition.

AUTUMN 2025 SCHEDULE

Please ensure arrangements are in place for your child to travel home.

Children's Laureate Wales/Bardd plant Cymru

We were extremely fortunate to host poet, rapper, singer-songwriter and Carnegie-nominated author Alex Wharton here at MCS yesterday, who ran four exciting, interactive and inspiring workshops for over 1,000 of our students, Years 7-10.

Year 7 and 8 got to be part of the creative process with a poetry draw-along, as well as learning an amazing poem about a hairy jellybean off by heart, whilst Years 9 and 10 were able to hear about the inspirational stories behind the poetry and hear some incredible performances, including ‘Roseanne’ and ‘The Gardener.’ All the year groups behaved beautifully, with Year 9 proving to be the most enthusiastic, even requesting the ‘Monday Morning Rap’ song a second time so that they could all sing along!

It was truly a wonderful, joyful experience, and one that we hope will stay with our students for a long time, perhaps even inspiring them to enter the ‘I Have A Dream’ poetry competition that we are currently running!

Here is the link to Alex Wharton’s website if anybody would like to learn more about him and his books: https://alexwhartonpoet.co.uk/

We would like to invite your school community and parent body to a free webinar. Across the year, we run webinars for schools and parents across the country, focusing on common difficulties we see in our work, which we know are topical concerns for many families.

Our webinars are delivered by Consultant Clinical Psychologist, Dr Daniel Weisberg of CAYP Psychology, a national psychological healthcare service for children and young people.
