Welsh Children’s Laureate/Bardd Plant Cymru

We are really excited to announce that the Welsh Children’s Laureate, Alex Wharton, is coming in to lead workshops with Years 7 to 10 on literacy engagement and positive masculinity on Thursday 18th September. Alex is an award-winning writer, poet, performer and singer-songwriter, from Torfaen, who has been Children’s Laureate for the last two years. The role is awarded to a talented and visionary Wales-based writer who is passionate about ensuring more children and young people discover the joy and well-being benefits of engaging with literature.

School photographs will take place next week on Tuesday 16 September and Wednesday 17th September.

Years 7 to 10 will have their photographs taken on Tuesday with Years 11 to 13 on Wednesday.

Y7-10 students who are not in on Tuesday will have the opportunity to have their photograph taken on Wednesday (12.30pm in School Hall) and anyone on Wednesday (Y11/12/13) who has a pre-arranged absence, will be able to slot in on Tuesday (2.35pm in School Hall).

Sibling photographs will be taken at 3pm on Tuesday, in the School Hall.  Please use the googleform link below to request a slot for your children.  Forms should be completed and submitted by noon on Monday 15 September, to allow us to liaise with the photographer and supply a list of students.  Only students on this list will be able to have their photographs taken.  Please note that parents will be required to make arrangements for their children to get home after these photographs.  Photographs are for siblings in this school only.

Community/Y Gymuned

If you are in Year 8 or above and fancy an exciting challenge in a world-leading youth organisation, have you thought about the RAF Air Cadets?

Being an air cadet is a rewarding and fulfilling experience. Cadet life is all about challenge, excitement and adventure. Cadets have many opportunities, including UK and overseas camps, leadership courses, air experience flights and pilot training, outdoor pursuits and cyber training.

The focus is always on enjoying yourself while improving your skills.  We are not a recruiting organisation for the main RAF. All the skills you’ll learn, and experiences you gain, will benefit whatever career path you choose.

There are already Monmouth Comprehensive school students at the Ross on Wye Squadron so you may be among people you already know – but if not, this organisation can help you build lifelong friendships.

We’re always looking for adult/parent volunteers in various roles, either in uniform or as civilian members of the squadron committee – no military background or experience required.

Please contact 01989 568672 for more information.
