Many congratulations to our senior boys football team and their Coach, Mr Hancocke, who were triumphant in the final of the Welsh Schools U18 Cup against Bryntirion at Merthyr FC’s Penydarren Park this week. They won 3-2, with MCS goals from Herbie Perry, Lucas Harris and then captain George Gouldingay with the winner just a few minutes from full-time.

The full squad is: Joe Porter, Lucas Harris, Charley Handley, Harri Williams, Mathew Jones, George Gouldingay (c), Jayden Makondora, Liam Brain, Herbie Perry, Jack Palmer, Callum Wilding, Ollie Heath, Harry Wilson, Finley Cummins, Joe Orledge and Archie Smith.

We are also very grateful to Monmouth Town Council, who sponsored a new team kit for the final. The Mayor of Monmouth, David Evans, kindly visited the team before they set off for the final, in order to present the new kit and to wish them luck.

Llongyfarchiadau bechgyn/Congratulations boys!

All the best for the Bank Holiday weekend to you all.

Student Success/Llwyddiant Myfyrwyr

William McDonald, Form 9ARI, has once again been selected to represent Wales at Mounted Games, including at the European Championships being held in Southern Ireland in July / August.

William has had a successful season so far, including being part of the Monmouthshire U15 team that won The English Championships that took place over the Easter weekend.

Congratulations, William.

There was a lot of tennis over the Easter holidays, firstly in the UK, then in Barbados!

Before going abroad, Max Swayne played in a Men’s Grade 4 doubles tournament at Cheltenham with his partner Sam, which they won.

He then got into an 18U ITF tournament in Barbados, playing against players from all over the world – Canada, America, China, the Bahamas, Bulgaria, Ecuador, Spain and Barbados.

Despite the overwhelming humidity and heat, Max won his first match in qualifying. He sadly lost his second match, but he loved the overall experience, making new friends from across the world.  He now wants to have more opportunities like this to travel and play tennis in the future.

Max and his sister Lyra were also able to continue tennis sessions whilst in Barbados with Sydney Lopez, a renowned tennis coach, usually being watched by the local monkeys!

Summer 2025 Schedule

Wellbeing/Lles

As the warmer weather continues, we would ask that all students come to school with a bottle of water or refillable bottle to ensure they remain hydrated during the day.

Bottles of water may be purchased from the Food Hall, but parents may wish to ensure that refillable bottles are brought from home, to ensure student allowances are not eaten into by constantly purchasing them from school. Additionally, this reduces the use of single-use plastics at school.

As well as the water machines around the School, jugs of water are always available in the Food Hall to allow students to refill their bottles.

Year 11 and Year 13 Lunch Accounts/Cyfrifon Cinio Blwyddyn 11 a Blwyddyn 13

As Y11 and Y13 students are approaching the time they will be leaving school, please can you ensure their lunch account has a positive balance for the remainder of the term and through the exam period.

If your child no longer uses the Food Hall and they have an overdrawn balance, please arrange to settle this account, either via ParentPay or by sending cash into Reception in an envelope with their name and form marked clearly.

The Food Hall staff will update their system to clear their overdrawn balance which will result in you no longer receiving overdue balance reminders through ParentPay.

Please be aware students in Year11/13 will not be permitted to go overdrawn or any further overdrawn during the Summer Term.

If you have any queries, please do not hesitate to contact the Finance Office.

Food Hall Summer Special/Arbennig Haf y Neuadd Fwyd

The Food Hall are offering their usual Summer Specials of ice creams and lollies.  Whilst these are warmly appreciated by students, buying these items obviously reduces their food allowances for the day.

If you think your child will be purchasing these items, we would ask that you have a conversation with them about how much they have to spend on a daily basis, as we don't want any student finding they cannot purchase their normal food items as they have overspent on ice creams or lollies.
