On Tuesday, April 8th, MCS celebrated its second annual Earth Day. This year’s theme focused on the River Wye, aiming to raise awareness about the importance of protecting our rivers and the severe pollution issues affecting the Wye, primarily caused by chicken farms.
The Eco-Council organized a series of "Pause for Thought" sessions to spark discussion on the topic of river pollution. The school’s Wellbeing lesson also delved deeper into the issue, and students created placards to show their support for the cause.

Year 7 students had the unique opportunity to hear from Catherine Fookes, Monmouthshire’s local MP, who has been a strong advocate for cleaning up the River Wye. She is also involved with the UK’s Water Bill, which came into effect in February 2025, further supporting efforts to tackle water pollution.
In addition to the educational activities, the Eco-Council hosted a bake sale to raise funds for the Friends of the River Wye, raising an impressive £225.
